Big names debut new products at Auto Shanghai 2015

auto showIt’s official, automotive companies looking to make a big impact should consider China as one of the best stages to gain the biggest media buzz for their upcoming releases and potential locations for their used car dealership.

The numbers don’t lie for the 16th annual Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition where there were a total of 2,000 exhibitors representing 18 different countries and more than 1,300 vehicles on display. There were also an additional 47 concept cars presented and 109 new models debuted.

It’s a big reason why Auto Shanghai has made its presence known as one of the world’s top automotive exhibition shows. Another factor is the growing and evolving automotive market in China that has attracted several U.S. and other companies across the globe to bring business to China – which can also be seen in those who provided exhibits during the event.

European, Japanese and U.S. companies brought their best to the Auto Shanghai stage in front of the Chinese market – what seems to be the most attractive market, with the most potential for big bucks, in the world.

At the same time, China’s domestic companies also brought their major players in the industry – including Changan Automobile, Dongfeng Motor, FAW, and SAIC Group, to name a few. Their focus involved a broad spectrum from car design to technical innovations.

But the 103 energy-saving vehicles caught the collective eyes of visitors that showed the transition and upgrades made in the Chinese automobile industry and the growth of a new energy-based market has been easily noticed self driving carswithin that change. Those new vehicles are, by many experts and enthusiasts, to be a look into the future of the future’s auto market.

On the other hand, there were general concerns brought to the attention of the self-driving vehicles that were brought to the show. In today’s world, continuous development of technology having a substantial influence on the automobile manufacturing market – this means the common sense approach is that more manufacturers will probably begin to network with others to produce their own projects in what could be the future of transportation.

Can Lincoln find new life in China?

lincoln auto dealerAmerican automotive company Lincoln has had some struggles in recent years as they’ve had some unsuccessful efforts to establish a new identity for the brand, not including furnace cleaning Winnipeg that has seen losses for the luxury brand. So the recent news of their decision to make a move towards the market in China might cause some experts to be very skeptical – then again, it could work out for the best.

With the recent upswing after a few years of cost-optimization of its product, Lincoln’s latest model of the MKZ has revived the Lincoln brand in the United States. While it might not be at the competitive level based on vehicle performance and it’s car dealership, there is still a loyal fan base that has become familiar with Lincoln’s heritage and the potential it has to make a strong comeback.

In regards to bringing their luxury models to China, the country is known for its love of luxury goods – consuming about 30 percent of the world’s supply of them. It’s safe to say there is market there, which is why multiple American companies are bringing business to China where they market to business people and entrepreneurs hoping their selection in wheels make a good impression on potential partners.

According to reports from Motor Trend, Lincoln has had brand managers study the Chinese market and develop a plan towards the tastes of Chinese luxury car buyers and while they are one of the world’s biggest luxury consumers, it’s a complicated market that is still conservative towards Western standards despite a liberal shift that began in the 1970s.

As the Chinese buyer is beginning to appreciate brands with a history of heritage (like used buicks), it just feels like a perfect opportunity that provides Lincoln a chance to rebrand and rebuild itself in another country where they could make an immediate splash. It also helps that Lincolns have been shown in a number of American movies during the brand’s glory days from the 1950s and into the ‘70s.

It will be interesting to see how Lincoln jumps over the hurdles of entering a new international market, but it may yield big rewards that are worth the risk.

First Corvette Z06 earns $1 million in auction

corvette carThere are several people who are devoted to the Chevrolet brand and their Crown Mazda auto dealership, apparently from a recent auction, some are willing to go to great lengths (even more remote than Churchill Manitoba) and extensive accounting to secure one.

One buyer at the Barrett-Jackson’s Palm Beach auction last month paid $1 million for the privilege of driving the very first production C7 Corvette Z06, which doubles the price of the first production of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 that was sold during the same auction.

So you can ignore the stick price of $85,000 for the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 because the market may have gotten more expensive. Granted it is a very nice car that includes a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine that created around 635 horsepower and nearly 650 pounders-per-foot of torque. It also comes with enough suspension hardware and other goodies to make perfect turns fast on the Nürburgring motorsports complex in Germany.

The person who placed the winning bid will have the choice of the Chevrolet having either a seven-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic – meaning the car will have the ability to go really fast in a short amount of time.

auto brakesThe new owner of the auction’s 2014 Camaro Z/28 – which has a normal sticker price of $75,000 – also got a great deal considering it comes with a hand-built 7.0-liter V-8 engine with about 505 horsepower and 481 pounds of torque in a six-speed manual transmission system – the vehicle also features with vented and drilled carbon ceramic brakes and a “flying car” mode.

Yes, “flying car” mode that received its name from engineers for the vehicle’s Performance Traction Management system that provides faster lap times on a race track to maintain full power and momentum, regardless of whether the tires momentarily lose contact with the ground in certain types of road conditions.

Despite being surprising numbers for the two cars, the combined $1.5 million raised between the Corvette Z06 and the Camaro Z/28 benefitted a good cause as all proceeds from the auction event benefitted research at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute that is affiliated with Wayne State University’s School of Medicine in Detroit, Mich.
