![]() Death of George Clynic
A fireman named George Clynick lived in Regent Street, In a house, now razed, nearly opposite St. Dunstan's Hall. Mr. Clynick was the father of a young family and a baker by trade and was very athletic. He was also a call fireman of the Fredericton Fire Department, it was his habit, when alarms were rung in below Regent Street, to dash out from his home and jump on the side of the fire truck when it reached the corner of King and Regent streets.
George Clynick did that many times, but on the evening of March 19, 1927, when he attempted it he slipped as he started to jump on the truck. He was killed instantly, and at the age of 48, the second Fredericton Fireman to be killed in the line of duty. As it turned out, firemen were responding to a false alarm.
